I Am He
“I Am He” is a powerful declaration used by God to reveal His identity, authority and uniqueness. He repeatedly proclaimed “I Am He” to declare that He alone is Sovereign God.
God: I am He; there's no God besides Me. (Deut. 32:39)
Jesus: The woman said, “I know that the Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When He comes, He will explain everything to us.” Jesus answered, “I who speak to you am He.” (John 4:25-26)
God: Who has performed this and carried it out, calling forth the generations from the beginning? I, the LORD—the first and the last—I am He.” (Isa. 41:4)
Jesus: That is why I told you that you would die in your sins. For unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.” (John 8:24) God: “You are My witnesses,” declares the LORD, “And My servant, whom I have chosen, so that you may consider and believe Me and understand that I am He. Before Me no god was formed, and after Me none will come. Even from eternity I am He, and none can deliver out of My hand. When I act, who can reverse it?” (Isa. 43:10-11,13)
Jesus: So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing on My own, but speak exactly what the Father has taught Me. (John 8:28)
God: I am He who blots out your transgressions for My sake and remember them no more. (Isa. 43:25)
Jesus: The one who shares My bread has lifted his heel against Me. I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it comes to pass, you will believe that I am He. (John 13:19)
God: Listen to Me, O Jacob, and Israel, whom I have called: I am He; I am the first, and I am the last. (Isa. 48:12)
Jesus: Jesus said, “I am He.” And Judas, His betrayer, was standing there with them. When Jesus said, “I am He,” they drew back and fell to the ground. (John 18:5-8)
God: Therefore, My people will know My name; therefore, they will know on that day that I am He who speaks. Here I am!” (Isa. 52:6)
Jesus used this same expression concerning Himself, revealing His divine identity and unity with the Father. This title emphasizes that Jesus is not merely a prophet or teacher, but the promised Messiah and the very manifestation of God among humanity.
