Glory of the Lord

The glory of the Lord is the magnificence of who God is—His holiness, majesty, power, and divine presence. Throughout the Old Testament, the glory of the Lord is associated with God Himself. Yet the New Testament gives an another revelation: the glory of God is revealed in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus did not merely reflect God’s glory as a servant or messenger; He came as the visible revelation of the invisible God. When Scripture speaks of the glory of the Lord and then reveals that glory in Jesus, we can see the unity of God and His Son. The same divine glory that belongs to the Lord is manifested through Christ. The following passages show how the glory of the Lord points us to the divine identity and majesty of Jesus.

Jesus: We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father,
(John 1:14)  

God: The heavens declare the glory of God.
(Psa. 19:1)

Jesus: The sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
(Matt. 24:30)  

God: I am the LORD; that is My name! I will not yield My glory to another or My praise to idols.
(Isa. 42:8)

Jesus: Father, glorify Me in Your presence with the glory I had with You before the world existed.
(John 17:5)

God: But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked  intently into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.
(Acts 7:55)

Jesus: ‍ ‍Father, I want those You have given Me to be with Me where I am, that they may see the glory You gave Me because You loved Me before the foundation of the world.
(John 17:24

God: Holy Spirit I ask that out of the riches of His glory He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being..
(Ephes. 3:16).  

‍Jesus:‍ ‍The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word.
(Heb. 1:3)

God: And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the holy city of Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, shining with the glory of God. Its radiance was like a most precious jewel, like a jasper, as clear as crystal.
(Rev. 21:10-11)  

God: But I saw no temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, because the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its lamp.
(Rev. 21:22-23)

‍Jesus: They will suffer the penalty of eternal destruction, separated from the presence of the Lord and the glory of His might, the day He comes to be glorified in His saints and regarded with wonder by all believers, including you who believed our testimony. For this we always pray for you, that God counts you worthy of His calling and that He will powerfully fulfill your every good desire and work of faith, so the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you in Him,
(2 Thes 1:9-12)    

Jesus is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature. In Him the invisible God is made known, and the glory of the Lord is revealed in human form. Therefore, to behold the glory of Jesus is to encounter the glory of God. The Father and the Son are distinct, yet they share the same divine glory. Christ reveals the majesty of God because He truly belongs within the identity of the one God.
