Everlasting Father

Though earthly fathers may fail, abandon, or pass away, the Lord remains the eternal and everlasting Father of His people. Israel cries out to God as their true Father, and the prophet foretells the coming Messiah as the Everlasting Father, revealing not only His divine nature, but His unending care, protection, wisdom, and covenant love toward His children.

God: Yet You are our Father, though Abraham does not know us and Israel does not acknowledge us. You, O LORD, are our Father; our Redeemer from Everlasting is Your name. (Isa. 63:16)

Jesus: unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isa. 9:6)

Scripture shows that God is the everlasting and faithful Father, while declaring the Son also to be the “Everlasting Father,” who never changes and never ceases to shepherd His people. Together these passages reveal the eternal nature, and unchanging faithfulness of Christ toward those who belong to Him.
