Eternal Life

Eternal life is one of the greatest promises found throughout Scripture. It is not merely the hope of living forever, but the gift of knowing the eternal God and His Son, Jesus Christ. From the beginning of creation to the promises of the coming kingdom, the Bible reveals that God alone is the source of everlasting life. Through Jesus, who conquered sin and death, believers are offered the assurance of forgiveness, resurrection from the dead as Jesus was, and fellowship with God forever.

God: Jesus started on His way, a man ran up and  knelt before Him. “Good Teacher,” he asked,  “What must I do to inherit eternal life?“Why do you call Me good?” Jesus replied. “No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments: Do not murder, do not commit  adultery, do not steal,.(Mark 10:17-21)

Jesus: Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the  wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,  that everyone who believes in Him may have  eternal life.   (John 3:13-15)

God: For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

Jesus: it is My Father’s will that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”  (John 6:40)

God:‍ ‍Now this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You  have sent.  (John 17:3)

Jesus:‍ ‍Jesus I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them out of My hand.  My Father who has given them to Me is greater than all. No one can snatch them out of My Father's hand. I and the Father are one.”  (John 10:28-30)

God: Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever hears My word  and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not come under judgment. Indeed, he has crossed over from death to life.   (John 5:24)

Jesus:‍ ‍Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me will live, even though he dies. And everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die.  (John 11:25-26)

God: ‍ ‍God “will repay each one according to his  deeds.” To those who by perseverance in  doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality, He will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow wickedness, there will be wrath and anger. There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil, first for the Jew, then for the Greek; but glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does good, first for the Jew, then for the Greek. For God does not show favoritism.  (Rom. 2:6-11)

Jesus: I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display His perfect  patience as an example to those who would  believe in Him for eternal life.   (1 Tim. 1:16)...

God: For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom. 6:23)

Jesus: But about the Son He (God) says: "Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever, You remain the same, and Your years will never end.  (Heb. 1:8);  (Heb. 1:11)

God: For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is dismantled, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. (2 Cor. 5:1)

Jesus: That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our own eyes, which we have gazed upon and touched with our own hands—this is the Word of life. And this is the life that was revealed; we have  seen it and testified to it, and we proclaim to  you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us.  (1 John 1:1-2)

God: Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus for the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of truth, that leads to godliness, in the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie,  promised before time began.  (Titus 1:1-2)

Jesus: As for you, let what you have heard from the beginning remain in you. If it does, you will also remain in the Son and in the Father. And this is the promise that He Himself made to us: eternal life.  (1 John 2:25)

God: And this is that testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.  Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. (1 John 5:11-12)

Jesus: I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.  (1 John 5:13)

Holy Spirit: Do not be deceived: God is not to be mocked. Whatever a man sows, he will reap in return. The one who sows to please his flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; but the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. (Gal. 6:8-8)

Jesus: I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.  (1 John 5:13) We know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.  (1 John 5:20)

Holy Spirit: He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who overcomes, I will grant the right to eat from the tree of life in the Paradise of God. (Rev. 2:7)

Jesus: keep yourselves in the love of God as you await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you eternal life.  (Jude 1:21)

The promise of eternal life reveals the heart of God’s love and His desire to draw humanity to Himself. Scripture teaches that this life is found not in human effort, but in the saving work of Jesus Christ—the One who came from the Father, gave His life for the world, and rose victorious over death. Jesus is the beginning and the end, holding eternity in His hands. Those who trust in Him receive the gift of life that cannot be destroyed, and extends beyond this present world, into the eternal presence of God.
