Co-Eternal
Co-Eternal speaks of the eternal nature shared by the Father the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Scripture reveals that God has no beginning and no end, and that the Son and Spirit are not created beings, but eternally exist with the Father.
God: Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after Our likeness, to rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, and over all the earth itself. (Gen. 1:26)
Jesus: unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders. He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isa. 9:6)
God: Then the LORD God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil. (Gen: 3:22)
Jesus: you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come forth for Me One to be ruler over Israel—One whose origins are of old, from the days of eternity. (Micah 5:2)
God: “Come let us go down and confuse their language so that they will not understand one another's speech.” So the LORD scattered them from there over the face of all the earth, and they stopped building the city. (Gen. 11:7)
Jesus: Behold, the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call Him Immanuel (which means, “God with us.”) (Matt. 1:23).
God: Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there he called upon the name of the LORD, the Eternal God. (Gen. 21:33)
Jesus: In the beginning was the Word. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. (John 1:1-3) God: There is no God besides Me. I lift up My hand to heaven and declare: As surely as I live forever, when I sharpen My flashing sword, and My hand grasps it in judgement, I will take vengeance on My adversaries and repay those who hate Me. (Deut. 32:39 and 40-41)
Jesus: No one has ever seen God. The one and only Son, who is Himself God and is at the Father’s side, has made Him known. (John 1:18)
God: The eternal God is your dwelling place; underneath are the everlasting arms. (Deut. 33:27)
Jesus: If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven except the One who descended from heaven—the Son of Man. (John 3:12-13 God: “Stand up and bless the LORD your God from everlasting to everlasting: (Neh. 9:5)
Jesus: the Jews tried all the harder to kill Him. Not only was He breaking the Sabbath, but He was even calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God. (John 5:18) God: Indeed, God is great—beyond our knowledge; the number of His years is unsearchable. (Job 36:26)
Jesus: Not that anyone has seen the Father except the One who is from God; only He has seen the Father. (John 6:46)
God: Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen. (Psa. 41:13
Jesus: What will happen if you see the Son of Man ascend to where He was before? (John 6:62)
God: For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even till death. (Psa. 48:14).
Jesus: If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I have come here from God. I have not come here on My own, but He sent Me. (John 8:42).
God: The heavens praise Your wonders, O LORD—Your faithfulness as well—in the assembly of the holy ones. Who in the skies can compare with the LORD? In the council of the holy ones, God is greatly feared, and awesome above all who surround Him. (Psa. 89:5-7)
Jesus: “I and the Father are one.” (John 10:30) God: Before the mountains were born or You brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting. You are God. (Psa. 90:2)
Jesus: And the one who sees me sees the One who sent Me. (John 12:45) God: In Your sight a thousand years are but a day that passes, or a watch of the night. (Psa. 90:4)
Jesus: “Philip, I have been with you all this time, and you do not know Me? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father?' Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words I say to you, I do not speak on My own. Instead, it is the Father dwelling in Me, performing His works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me, or at least believe on account of the works themselves. (John 14:9-11) God: Your throne was established long ago; You are from all eternity. (Psa. 93:2)
Jesus: Everything that belongs to the Father is Mine. That is why I said that the Spirit will take from what is Mine and disclose it to you. (John 16:15)
God: But You, O LORD, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures to all generations. (Psa. 102:12)
Jesus: And now, Father, glorify Me in Your presence with the glory I had with You before the world existed. (John 17:5)
God: I say: O my God, do not take me in the midst of my days! Your years go on through all generations. In the beginning You laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing You will change them, and they will be passed on. But You remain the same, and Your years will never end. (Psa. 102:25-27)
Jesus: Father, I want those You have given Me to be with Me where I am, that they may see the glory You gave Me because You loved Me before the foundation of the world. (John 17:24)
God: Even from eternity I am He, and none can deliver out of My hand. When I act, who can reverse it?” (Isa. 43:13)
Jesus: When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father—He will testify about Me. (John 15:26)
God: For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: "I dwell in a high and holy place, and with the oppressed and humble in spirit, to restore the spirit of the lowly and revive the heart of the contrite. (Isa. 57:15)
Jesus: Theirs are the patriarchs. From them proceeds the human descent of Christ, who is God overall, forever worthy of praise! (Rom. 9:5) God: The LORD reigns! He is robed in majesty; the LORD has clothed and armed Himself with strength. The world indeed is firmly established; it cannot be moved. Are You not from everlasting, O LORD, my God, my Holy One? We will not die. (Hab. 1:12)
Jesus: Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross. (Phil. 2:5-8)
Trinity: Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, (Matt 28:19).
Jesus: The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn (Greek—first ranked) over all creation. (Col. 1:15) God: Now to Him who is able to strengthen you by my gospel and by the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery concealed for ages past but now revealed and made known through the writing of the prophets by the command of the eternal God, in order to lead all nations to the obedience that comes from faith—to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen. (Rom. 16:25-26) Jesus: For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity dwells in bodily form. (Col. 2:9)
God: No, we speak of the mysterious and hidden wisdom of God, which He destined for our glory before time began. (1 Cor. 2:7)
Jesus: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful, true Witness, the Origin of God's creation. (Rev. 3:14) The Greek word for ‘Origin’ in Rev. 3:14 is ‘arche,’ which has several definitions: origin, beginning, first place, rule, authority, or source. The meaning of this verse changes depending on which bible translation is used. God: and to illuminate for everyone the stewardship of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things. His purpose was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to the eternal purpose that He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Eph. 3:9-11)
Jesus: Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who by grace has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope, (2 Thess. 2:16) God: Now to the King eternal, immortal, and invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. (1 Tim. 1:17)
Jesus: He has saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works, but by His own purpose and by the grace He granted us in Christ Jesus before time began. (2 Tim. 1:9)
God: And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore you, secure you, strengthen you, and establish you. (1 Pet. 5:7-8)
Jesus: The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, (Heb.1:3)
God: For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even till death. (Psa. 48:14)
Jesus: But about the Son He says: "Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever, and justice is the scepter of Your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, Your God has anointed You. You remain the same, and Your years will never end. (Heb. 1:8-9, and 12)
God: But the LORD abides forever; He has established His throne for judgment. (Psa. 9:7)
Jesus: He was known before the foundation of the world but revealed in the last times for your sake. Through Him you believe. (1 Pet. 1:20)
God: Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary; His understanding is beyond searching out. (Isa. 40:28)
Jesus: I came from the Father and entered the world. In turn, I will leave the world and go to the Father. (John 16:28)
God: For who in the skies can compare with the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD? In the council of the holy ones, God is greatly feared, and awesome above all who surround Him. (Psa. 89:6-7)
Jesus: we proclaim to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us. (1 John 1:1-2)
God: Jesus of Nazareth was a man certified by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs, which God did among you through Him, as you yourselves know. He was delivered up by God’s set plan and foreknowledge, and you, by the hands of the lawless, put Him to death by nailing Him to the cross. (Acts 2:22-23)
Jesus: And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true—in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. (1 John 5:20)
God: Micaiah continued, “Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing by Him on His right and on His left. (1 Kings 22:19)
Jesus: to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority through Jesus Christ our Lord before all time, and now, and for all eternity. (Jude 1:25)
God: “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” And whenever the living creatures give glory, honor, and thanks to the One seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever. (Rev. 4:9)
Jesus declared, “Before Abraham was, I AM,” identifying Himself with the eternal God. From eternity past to eternity future, the triune God reigns unchanged, uncreated, and everlasting. The title “Co-Eternal” reminds us that the fullness of deity has always existed perfectly and eternally in divine unity.
