Peace of God

The peace of God is more than the absence of conflict or trouble. It is the deep and lasting peace that comes from knowing and trusting Him. Scripture reveals God as the source of peace, while also showing Jesus bringing peace to His people and giving a peace unlike anything the world can provide. As we look at these passages together, we see another beautiful connection between God and Jesus—both are revealed as the source and giver of true peace.

God: Though the mountains may be removed and the hills may be shaken, My loving devotion will not depart from you, and My covenant of peace will not be broken,” says the LORD, who has compassion on you.
(Isa. 54:10)

Jesus: For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
(Isa. 9:6)

God: The LORD gives His people strength; the LORD blesses His people with peace.
(Psa. 29:11)

Jesus: ‍ ‍Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.
(John 14:27)

God: Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.  (Matt. 5:9)

Jesus: Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, for to this you were called as members of one body. And be thankful.  (Col. 3:15)

God: Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely, and may your entire spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  (1 Thess. 5:23)

Jesus: Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. This greeting is in my own hand—Paul. This is my mark in every letter; it is the way I write. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you. (2 Thess. 3:16)

God: And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  (Phil. 4:7)

Trinity: according to the foreknowledge of God the Father and sanctified by the Spirit for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by His blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.    (1 Pet. 1:2)

God: Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me, put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.  (Phil. 4:9)

The peace that comes from God is lasting because it rests upon who He is. Jesus not only brings peace between God and humanity but gives His followers a peace that remains even in the midst of troubled circumstances. The Scriptures therefore point us to Jesus as more than a messenger of God’s peace—He possesses and gives the peace that belongs to God. In Him, we can find the quiet confidence, comfort, and assurance that only God can provide.
