God: Then the LORD will go out to fight against those nations, as He fights in the day of battle. On that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to West, forming a great valley, with half the mountain moving to the north and half to the South. (Zech 14:3-4)
Jesus: They were looking intently into the sky as He was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “Why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven." Then they returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, which is near the city, a Sabbath day’s journey away. (Acts 1:10-12)
This is a wonderful prophecy showing that the One who ascended from the Mount of Olives will return to that very place in glory. The Bible not only foretells Christ’s return; but also reveals the exact location where He will stand when He comes again. The Mount of Olives, from which Jesus ascended into heaven, is the very place to which He will return as the victorious King. These passages demonstrate God’s perfect faithfulness to His promises and provides another remarkable connection between the Lord of the Old Testament and Jesus Christ.
The return of Christ to the Mount of Olives fulfills prophecy with precision. The One who departed from that mountain will one day stand upon it again to establish His kingdom. These scriptures affirm that Jesus is the promised Lord whose return was foretold centuries in advance, leaving no doubt that God’s redemptive plan will be fulfilled exactly as He has declared.
