Who is The Lord?
Lord is one of the most important titles in scripture. It speaks of authority, sovereignty, ownership, and divine identity. In the Old Testament, “LORD” is often the English translation of the sacred name of God, Yahweh—the eternal One who created all things and reigns over heaven and earth. In the New Testament, Jesus is repeatedly called, “Lord,” revealing His supreme authority and His equality with the Father.
God: The LORD said, “I have seen the affliction of My people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their oppressors, and I am aware of their sufferings. I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them out of that land to a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey" (Ex. 3:7-8).
Jesus: While the Pharisees were assembled, Jesus questioned them: “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is He?” “David’s,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord’? For he says: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand until I put Your enemies under Your feet.” ’So if David calls Him ‘Lord,’ how can He be David’s son?” No one was able to answer a word, and from that day on no one dared to question Him any further. (Matt 22:41-46)

Go assemble the elders of Israel and say to them, The LORD, the God of your fathers-the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob-has appeared to me and said: I have surely attended to you and have seen what has been done to you in Egypt.' The elders of Israel will listen to what you say, and you must go with them to the king of Egypt and tell him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Now please let us take a three-day journey into the wilderness, to sacrifice to the LORD our God.' (Ex. 3:15-16 and 18)

To understand who the Lord is, we must examine how Scripture uses this title for both Yahweh and Jesus Christ, showing the fullness of His deity, power, and rightful rule over all creation.
