The Trinity

The many passages already presented all point to one unified truth: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are distinct Persons who share the one divine nature. The Bible consistently declares that there is only one God, yet it also unmistakably reveals the Father as God, the Son as God, and the Holy Spirit as God. These are not three gods, nor are they merely different names or roles of one Person, but three distinct Persons united in one eternal Being. While the word “Trinity” does not appear in the Bible, the truth it describes is woven throughout both the Old and New Testaments.

God: In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted; and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above Him stood seraphim, each having six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling out to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of Hosts; all the earth is full of His glory.” At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook, and the temple was filled with smoke. Then I said: "Woe is me, for I am ruined, because I am a man of unclean lips dwelling among a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Hosts." Then one of the seraphim flew to me, and in his hand was a glowing coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. And with it he touched my mouth and said, "Now that this has touched your lips, your iniquity is removed and your sin is atoned for.” Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying: “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?" And I said: “Here am I. Send me!” And He replied:‍ ‍“Go and tell this people:  'Be ever hearing, but never understanding be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’ Make the hearts of this people calloused; deafen their ears and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed. (Isaiah 6:1-10)

Jesus: Although Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still did not believe in Him. This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet: “Lord, who has believed our message? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” For this reason they were unable to believe. For again, Isaiah says: He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so that they cannot see with their eyes, and understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would heal them. Isaiah said these things because he saw Jesus' glory and spoke about Him.   (John 12:41)

Holy Spirit:      So they set a day to meet with Paul, and many people came to the place he was staying. He expounded to them from morning to evening, testifying about the kingdom of God and persuading them about Jesus from the Law of Moses and the Prophets. Some of them were convinced by what he said, but others refused to believe. They disagreed among themselves and began to leave after Paul had made this final statement: "The Holy Spirit was right when He spoke to your fathers through Isaiah the prophet: Go to this people and say: “You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.” For this people’s heart has grown callous; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise, they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would heal them.’ Be advised, therefore, that God’s salvation has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will listen!”  (Acts 28:23-28)

The LORD of Hosts spoke the prophecy. (Isaiah 6:1-10) Isaiah saw Jesus speak the prophecy.  (John 12:37-41), (Matt. 13:13-17) (Luke 8:10)   The Holy Spirit spoke the prophecy.  (Acts 28:23-28)

God: O come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD our Maker. For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, the sheep under His care.  Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah (the Rebellion) in the day at Massah in the wilderness, where your fathers tested and tried Me, though they had seen My work. For forty years I was angry with that generation, and I said, "They are a people whose hearts go astray, and they have not known My ways." So I swore on oath in My anger, "They shall never enter My rest."   (Psa. 95:6-11)                                        Jesus: See to it, brothers, that none of you has a wicked heart of unbelief that turns away from the living God. But exhort one another daily, as long as it is called today, so that none of you may be hardened. We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly to the end the assurance we had at first. As it has been said: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts, as you did in the rebellion.” For who were the ones who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? So it was because of their unbelief that they were unable to enter. (Heb. 3:14-16,19)

Holy Spirit: Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts, as you did in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness, where your fathers tested and tried Me, and for forty years saw My works. Therefore I was angry with that generation, and I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known My ways.’ So I swore on oath in My anger ‘They shall never enter My rest.” (Heb. 3:7-11).

God: Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their fathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt—a covenant they broke, though I was a husband to them “But this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD. I will put My law in their minds and inscribe it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they will be My people…For I will forgive their iniquities and will remember their sins no more." (Jer. 31:31-34)

Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First He says: “This is the covenant I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord. I will put My laws in their hearts and inscribe them on their minds.” Then He adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.” (Heb. 10:15-17)

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me. To the one who overcomes, I will grant the right to sit with Me on My throne, just as I overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."  (Rev. 3:13, 20-21)

Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  (Matt. 28:19)                                                             The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you. (2 Cor. 13:14)

There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptismone God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.  (Ephes. 4:4-6)

Consider how each passage on this page contributes another piece to the harmony of God’s self revelation, not to mention the dozens of passages in this website building toward this very truth. The doctrine of the Trinity is not based on a single verse but on the combined testimony of the whole of Scripture. From creation to redemption and from Genesis to Revelation, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit work together in perfect unity, revealing the fullness of the one true God. The Trinity is not a contradiction to be explained away but a divine mystery.
