Lord of the Sabbath

Lord of the Sabbath is a title that reveals the sovereignty over God’s appointed day of rest. When Jesus declared Himself Lord of the Sabbath, He affirmed that He alone has authority to fulfill its true purpose.

God: Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God, on which you must not do any work—neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maid-servant or livestock, nor the foreigner within your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth and the sea and all that is in them, but on the seventh day He rested. Therefore, the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.  (Ex. 20:8-11)

Jesus: Therefore, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”  (Mark 2:28)

Then Jesus declared, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.” (Luke 6:5)

More than a day of physical rest, the Sabbath points to spiritual rest and meditation on Him and His creations, with Jesus inviting all who are weary to come to Him and find true peace for their hearts and minds, and soul.
