His Grace
Grace is the undeserved favor, mercy, and kindness of God freely given to those who do not earn it. Throughout Scripture, God’s grace is revealed as the source of salvation, strength, and blessing. The New Testament also speaks of the grace of Jesus Christ, showing that His grace is not separate from God’s grace, but is a beautiful expression of the same divine love and mercy. The passages that follow reveal how God’s grace and the grace of Jesus are closely and powerfully connected.
God: If Abraham was indeed justified by works, he had something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” Now the wages of the worker are not credited as a gift, but as an obligation. However, to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness…. (Rom 4:2-5)
Jesus: From His fullness we have all received grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is Himself God and is at the Father's side ,has made Him known. (John 1:16-18)
God: For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law, but under grace? Certainly not! Do you not know that when you offer yourselves as obedient slaves, you are slaves to the one you obey, whether you are slaves to sin leading to death, or to obedience leading to righteousness? But thanks be to God that, though you once were slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were committed. (Rom. 6:14-17)
Jesus: Now then, why do you test God by placing on the necks of the disciples a yoke that neither we nor our fathers have been able to bear? On the contrary, we believe it is through the grace of the Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.” (Acts 15:11)
God: God did not reject His people, whom He foreknew. In the same way, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. And if it is by grace, then it is no longer by works. Otherwise, grace would no longer be grace. (Rom. 11:2, 5-6)
Jesus: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption in Christ Jesus. (Rom. 3:23-24)
God: But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace to me was not in vain. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. (1 Cor. 15:10)
Jesus: since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we stand. (Rom. 5:1-2)
God: And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things, at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. (2 Cor. 9:8)
Jesus: The gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man [Adam], how much more did God’s grace and gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many! (Rom. 5:15)
God: It is by grace you have been saved! And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages He might display the surpassing riches of His grace, demonstrated by His kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life. (Eph. 2:5-10)
Jesus: so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Rom. 5:21)
God: I do not set aside the grace of God. For if righteousness comes through the law, Christ died for nothing. (Gal. 2:21)
Jesus: But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me. (2 Cor. 12:9)
Trinity: The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you. (2 Cor. 13:14)
Jesus: Now to each one of us grace has been given according to the measure of the gift of Christ. (Ephes. 4:7) Grace and peace be multiplied to you; through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. (2 Pet. 1:2)
God’s grace is a free gift that cannot be earned—it flows from His great love and mercy toward us. Scripture shows that this same grace is found abundantly in Jesus Christ, through whom we receive forgiveness, salvation, and hope. His grace sustains us when we are weak and gives us confidence in God’s unfailing love. As these passages demonstrate, the grace of Jesus is another beautiful testimony to his divine nature and His unity with God.
