Healer

Throughout Scripture, the Father reveals His compassion through healing, mercy, and redemption. Jesus Christ, the visible image of God, walked among humanity healing the sick, giving sight to the blind, cleansing lepers and many other illnesses. He not only mends the body, but also brings forgiveness, and spiritual renewal and eternal life to all who trust in Him.

God: Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech and his wife and his maidservants, so that they could again bear children for on account of Abraham’s wife Sarah the LORD had completely closed all the wombs in Abimelech’s household. (Gen. 20:17-18)‍ ‍

There the LORD made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there He tested them, saying, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His eyes, and pay attention to His commands, and keep all His statutes, then I will not bring on you any of the diseases I inflicted on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you." (Ex. 15:26)‍ ‍‍ ‍Why then were you unafraid to speak against My servant Moses?” So, the anger of the LORD burned against them, and He departed. As the cloud lifted from above the Tent, suddenly Miriam became leprous, white as snow. Aaron turned toward her, saw that she was leprous, and said to Moses, “My lord, please do not hold against us this sin we have so foolishly committed. So Moses cried out to the LORD, “O God, please heal her!” But the LORD answered Moses, “If her father had but spit in her face, would she not have been in disgrace for seven days? Let her be confined outside the camp for seven days; after that she may be brought back in.”   (Num.  12:8-15)

Then the king responded to the man of God, “Intercede with the LORD your God and pray that my hand may be restored.” So, the man of God interceded with the LORD, and the king’s hand was restored to him as it was before.   (1 Kings 13:6)

So Naaman went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh was restored and became like that of a little child, and he was clean.  (2 Kings 5:14-15)

As the Arameans came down against him, Elisha prayed to the LORD, “Please strike these people with blindness.” So He struck them with blindness, according to the word of Elisha. And Elisha told them, “This is not the way, and this is not the city. Follow me and I will take you to the man you are seeking.” And he led them to Samaria. When they had entered Samaria, Elisha said, “O LORD, open the eyes of these men that they may see.” Then the LORD opened their eyes, and they looked around and discovered that they were in Samaria. (2 Kings 6:18-20)

Before Isaiah had left the middle courtyard, the word of the LORD came to him, saying, “Go back and tell Hezekiah the leader of My people that this is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: ‘I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. I will surely heal you. (2 Kings 20:4-5)

See now that I am He; there is no God besides Me. I bring death and I give life; wound and I heal, and there is no one who can deliver from My hand.  (Deut. 32:39)

A voice is heard on the barren heights, the children of Israel weeping and begging for mercy, because they have perverted their ways and forgotten the LORD their God. “Return, O faithless children, and I will heal your faithlessness.” “Here we are. We come to You, You are the LORD our God.  (Jer. 3:21-22)

O LORD my God, I cried to You for help, and You healed me.  (Psa. 30:2)

JESUS ACCORDING TO MATTHEW

When Jesus came down from the mountain, large crowds followed Him. Suddenly a leper came and knelt before Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” He said. “Be clean!” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. (Matt. 8:1-3)

When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came and pleaded with Him, “Lord, my servant lies at home, paralyzed and in terrible agony.“I will go and heal him,” Jesus replied. The centurion answered, “Lord, I am not worthy to have You come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. When Jesus heard this, He marveled and said to those following Him, "Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! As you have believed, so will it be done for you.” And his servant was healed at that very hour. (Matt. 8:5-13)‍

When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to Jesus, and He drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to Jesus, and He drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took on our infirmities and carried our diseases.” (Matt. 8:14-17) ‍ ‍Aware of this, Jesus withdrew from that place. Large crowds followed Him, and He healed them all,‍ ‍ (Matt. 12:15)‍ ‍

And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the surrounding region. People brought all the sick to Him and begged Him just to let them touch the fringe of His cloak. And all who touched Him were healed. (Matt. 14:35-36)

Large crowds came to Him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others, and laid them at His feet, and He healed them.‍ ‍Matt. 15:30)

As they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed Him And there were two blind men sitting beside the road. When they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” The crowd admonished them to be silent, but they cried out all the louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!’ Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want Me to do for you?” He asked. “Lord,” they answered, “let our eyes be opened.” Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes, and at once they received their sight and followed Him. (Matt. 20:29-34)

ACCORDING TO MARK

Suddenly a man with an unclean spirit cried out in the synagogue: What do You want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—The Holy One of God!” But Jesus rebuked the spirit. “Be silent!” He said. Come out of him! At this, the unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions and came out with a loud shriek. (Mark 1:23-26)‍ ‍

Simon’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a fever, and they promptly told Jesus about her. So He went to her, took her by the hand, and helped her up. The fever left her, and she began to serve them. That evening, after sunset, people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon possessed, and the whole town gathered at the door. And He healed many who were ill with various diseases and drove out many demons. (Mark 1:30-34)

Then a paralytic was brought to Him, carried by four men. Since they were not able to get to Jesus through the crowd, they uncovered the roof above Him, made an opening, and lowered the paralytic on his mat. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” But some of the scribes were sitting there and thinking in their hearts, “Why does this man speak like this? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” At once Jesus knew in His spirit that they were thinking this way within themselves. “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts?” He asked. “Which is easier to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, pick up your mat, and walk’? But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins…” He said to the paralytic, “I tell you, get up, pick up your mat, and go home.” Immediately the man got up, picked up his mat, and walked out in front of them all. (Mark 2:3-12)

Jesus asked His disciples to have a boat ready for Him so that the crowd would not crush Him. For He had healed so many that all who had diseases were pressing forward to touch Him.And when the unclean spirits saw Him, they fell down before Him and cried out, “You are the Son of God!” (Mark 3:9-10)

Some people brought to Him a man who was deaf and hardly able to speak, and they begged Jesus to place His hand on him. "So Jesus took him aside privately, away from the crowd, and put His fingers into the man’s ears. Then He spit and touched the man’s tongue. And looking up to heaven, He sighed deeply and said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means, “Be opened!”) Immediately the man’s ears were opened and his tongue was released, and he began to speak plainly. (Mark 7:32-35)

ACCORDING TO LUKE

On another Sabbath Jesus entered the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was withered. Looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, the scribes and Pharisees were watching Him closely to see if He would heal on the Sabbath.‍.. And after looking around at all of them, He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and it was restored. (Luke 6:6-7 and 10)

They had come to hear Him and be healed of their diseases, and those troubled by unclean spirits were healed. The entire crowd was trying to touch Him, because power was coming from Him and healing them all. (Luke 6:18-19) ‍ ‍‍ ‍When Jesus stepped ashore, He was met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothing or lived in a house, but he stayed in the tombs. When the man saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before Him, shouting in a loud voice, “What do You want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You not to torture me! For Jesus had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was bound with chains and shackles, he had broken the chains and been driven by the demon into solitary places. What is your name?” Jesus asked. “Legion,” he replied, because many demons had gone into him. And the demons kept begging Jesus not to order them to go into the Abyss. There on the hillside a large herd of pigs was feeding. So the demons begged Jesus to let them enter the pigs, and He gave them permission. Then the demons came out of the man and went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned. (Luke 8:27-33)‍

When Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed Him, for they had all been waiting for Him. Just then a synagogue leader named Jairus came and fell at Jesus’ feet. He begged Him to come to his house, because his only daughter, who was about twelve, was dying. While He was still speaking, someone arrived from the house of the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” he told Jairus. “Do not bother the Teacher anymore.” But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “Do not be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.” When He entered the house, He did not allow anyone to go in with Him except Peter, John, James, and the child’s father and mother. Meanwhile, everyone was weeping and mourning for her. But Jesus said, “Stop weeping; she is not dead but asleep.” And they laughed at Him, knowing that she was dead. But Jesus took her by the hand and called out, “Child, get up! Her spirit returned, and at once she got up. And He directed that she be given something to eat. Her parents were astounded, (Luke 8:40-56)

As Jesus went with him, the crowds pressed around Him, including a woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years. She had spent all her money on physicians, but no one was able to heal her. She came up behind Jesus and touched the fringe of His cloak and immediately her bleeding stopped. “Who touched Me?” Jesus asked. But they all denied it. “Master, said Peter, “the people are crowding and pressing against You.” But Jesus declared, “Someone touched Me, for I know that power has gone out from Me.” Then the woman, seeing that she could not escape notice, came trembling and fell down before Him. In the presence of all the people, she explained why she had touched Him and how she had immediately been healed. “Daughter,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you. Go in peace.‍ ‍(Luke 8:42-48)

One Sabbath, Jesus went to eat in the home of a leading Pharisee, and those in attendance were watching Him closely. Right there before Him was a man with dropsy. So Jesus asked the experts in the law and the Pharisees, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not? But they remained silent. Then Jesus took hold of the man, healed him, and sent him on his way. (Luke 14:1-4) ‍ ‍

ACCORDING TO JOHN

And there was a royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum. When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and begged Him to come down and heal his son, who was about to die. Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will never believe. “ “Sir, ” the official said, “come down before my child dies.” “Go,” said Jesus. Your son will live.” The man took Jesus at His word and departed. And while he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was alive. So he inquired as to the hour when his son had recovered, and they told him, “The fever left him yesterday at the seventh hour.” Then the father realized that this was the very hour in which Jesus had told him, “Your son will live.” And he and all his household believed. (John 4:46-53)

One man there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and realized that he had spent a long time in this condition, He asked him, “Do you want to get well?” “Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am on my way, someone else goes in before me.” Then Jesus told him, “Get up, pick up your mat, and walk.”  Immediately the man was made well, and he picked up his mat and began to walk.  (John 5:5-9)‍

Now as Jesus was passing by, He saw a man blind from birth, and His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but this happened so that the works of God would be displayed in him. While it is daytime, we must do the works of Him who sent Me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” When Jesus had said this, He spit on the ground, made some mud, and applied it to the man’s eyes. Then He told him, “Go,” wash in the Pool of “Siloam” (which means “Sent”). So the man went and washed and came back seeing. At this, his neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging began to ask, “Isn’t this the man who used to sit and beg?” Some claimed that he was, but others said, “No, he just looks like him.” But the man kept saying, “I am the one.” (John 9:1-9) ‍ ‍
